What is Virgin Coconut Oil?
Virgin Coconut Oil (or VCO) is obtained from the fresh and mature kernel (usually around 12 months from pollination) of the coconut (a.k.a Cocos nucifera L.) by mechanical or natural means with or without the application of heat, which does not lead to alteration of the nature of the oil.
Virgin Coconut Oil does not undergo chemical refining, bleaching or deodorizing. Oils that have are referred to as RBD Oils. Virgin Coconut Oil can be consumed in its natural state without the need for further processing.
Virgin Coconut Oil consists mainly of saturated Medium Chain Triglycerides (or MCT) of which lauric acid, a 12-carbon atom chain, is the predominant fatty acid. The fatty acids in Virgin Coconut Oil are distinct from animal fats which contain mainly of Long Chain Fatty Acids (sometime you see the abbreviation - LCFA).
Virgin Coconut Oil is colorless, free of sediment with natural fresh coconut scent. It is free from rancid odor or taste.
